Gentoo - MOTD? [fixed]

(1/2) > >>

Bigun:
I had Ultimate compiled by itself outside of Gentoo's portage.  Recently I decided to go ahead and use the one inside portage to keep updates on keel with the rest of the system.

Upon doing so I used all of the old config files and everything worked perfectly..... except for the ircd.motd.

It won't show the MOTD.  Did the MOTD move or does Gentoo store the motd file somewhere else besides in /etc?

I asked in Gentoo forums and didn't get an answer.

ShadowMaster:
Offhand it does seem like it should reside in /etc/ultimateircd/ircd.motd
This is just from looking at the ebuild file however, but unless gentoo does something weird, it should be located alongside the other config files.

Bigun:
You would think, but:

--- Code: ---surfer ~ # ls -l /etc/ultimateircd/
total 40
drwxr-xr-x  2 root root  160 Jan 24 08:48 CVS
drwxr-xr-x  4 root root  248 Jan 24 08:48 backup
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  671 Jan 24 08:48 ircd.channels
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 5228 Jan 24 09:37 ircd.conf
-rw-------  1 root root  343 Jan 24 08:48 ircd.glines
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 1782 Jan 24 16:42 ircd.ini
-rw-r--r--  1 root root    0 Jan 24 08:48 ircd.klines
-rw-------  1 root root 1935 Jan 24 08:48 ircd.motd
-rw-------  1 root root    6 Jan 24 08:48 ircd.pid
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 7034 Jan 24 08:48 ircd.quotes
-rw-------  1 root root    8 Jan 24 08:48 ircd.tune
drwxr-xr-x  3 root root  208 Jan 24 08:48 networks

--- End code ---

And yet /motd results in the ircd saying that the motd file is missing.

Still no answer from Gentoo forums yet, you can go there to comment if you'd like:

Bigun:
Odd.... now I'm noticing my Oper commands no longer work either...

Bigun:
Aha!  Got it, it was a permission issue.

Setting things to 755 fixed it.
