Status IPv6
« on: September 29, 2005, 11:11:19 am »
Hi,

Whats the EXACT status on IPv6 and UltimateIRCd.
I heard rumours about servers can't support both protocols at the same time.

What are the limitations??

Againaway would be the correct one to answer this really as i havent touched (or used) the IPv6 feature myself.

If my memory serves, it should be possible to link non IPv6 servers with IPv6 servers, but im quite sure there might be some issues remaining as it obviously hasnt recieved as much testing as IPv4 features.

It seems that Againaway died or something. I send a PM a week ago. Nothing, all dead.

I have 2 servers now that I can't link due to some code errors in Againaway's ipv6 support. The code simply isn't working.
Someone fix this ipv6 :badword:up, its way over my head to fix :s

Add the code for it instead :)
It's getting more and more required for ircd's.

IPv6 is already implemented and 'should' work.
Give it a try in your testnet and post your results here.

Also keep in mind that ALL servers must have been compiled with ipv6.
If youve problems linking keep in mind that the ircd uses the ip of his M: line to connect to the network.
Means:
A ipv6 ircd cant connect to an ipv4 hub the hub needs to have at last one ipv6 even if the ipv6 server has an ipv4 address bound.

Best choice solution (tm):

Your ipv6 ircd should have one ipv4.
Your ipv4 hub should have one ipv6.

The C: line on the leaf should contain the ipv6 of the hub and the C: line on the hub should contain the ipv4 of the leaf

Edit: Here a snippet of my test

But as you can see the reverse records are broken .. dunno where .. my nameserver.. resolver .. code .. firewall ..

./configure --prefix=/home/againaway/ipv6/ --enable-ipv6
