Windows IRCds are somewhat.. ah whats that word.. ah yes unstable.  Wether yer gunna be running them on Windows Crash( 98 ), or Windows 2k (security holed).  Updates and patches from microsoft simply take too long to get out to the general public, and every time we've had an ircd running on a windows system, you can guess which one people target the first.

We run all our servers on *nix, bsd, etc and have had great success, in most cases each server has gotten the newest Ultimate alpha installed on it, and ran straight through until the next alpha was available.

On another network which runs Unreal, we had all nix servers and 1 windows server (w2k) and the uptimes of the w2k server where somewhat horrible.

If you want security and stability running it on a UNIX variant is the way to go.  I personally dont think anyone should be running an IRCd on a Windows system (or services for that matter), although we do have plans to port NeoStats to windows later in the :badword:ure when our windows developer has success with the Dynamic modules ;) (ahhh anything to toy with his mind) :P
mv /mount/c/windows > /dev/null
